Fiat Grande Panda Electric: A Retro Reboot for the City

The Italians revive an iconic nameplate with a modern electric twist. The Fiat Grande Panda Electric is a retro reboot for the City.

Fiat revives its iconic Panda nameplate with a modern electric twist. Borrowing tech from cousins Citroën e-C3 and Opel Frontera, the compact Grande Panda aims to charm eco-conscious urbanites –proving small cars can still pack big personality.

Design: Boxed Brilliance

Penned by Renault 5 designer François Leboine, the boxy Grande Panda (3.99 meters long) leans into retro-futurism with sharper edges and a bolder stance than its Citroën sibling.

The electric variant ditches nostalgia for a sleek, angular profile, while subtle yellow accents on vents and seat stitching add playful flair.

Interior: Compact & Quirky

Built for four (or a small fifth passenger in a pinch), the cabin mixes practicality with whimsy. A 10-inch digital dash pairs with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen shaped like Fiat’s historic Lingotto test track.

Missing? A real-time energy consumption display – though a software fix is promised. Cargo space shines: 361 liters expands to 1,500 liters with folded rear seats.

Powertrain: Budget-Friendly Tech

Launching first as an EV (€24,990), the Grande Panda packs a 113 HP motor and 44 kWh LFP battery, prioritizing affordability over range (320 km).

The lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry cuts costs by 30% versus pricier NMC batteries but requires more cells to hit its modest range. A mild hybrid version arrives later, but don’t expect a sub-€20k variant – Fiat’s sticking to its price guns.

Charging: Slow & Steady

The integrated self-coiling cable (4.5 meters) enables 7.4 kW AC charging (20-80% in 4.2 hours), while an 11 kW port trims it to 2.5 hours. DC fast charging peaks at 100 kW – enough for a caffeine stop, but hardly class-leading.

Drive: Urban Warrior, Highway Compromise

With a 0-100 km/h crawl of 11 seconds and a 132 km/h top speed, this Panda’s no autobahn star.

Yet its low center of gravity (thanks to a 300 kg battery) and tuned brakes – seamlessly blending regen and friction – deliver nimble city handling. Suspension trades Citroën’s plush ride for stability, but potholes still sting without hydraulic dampers.

Verdict: Fiat Grande Panda Electric

At 17.5 kWh/100 km, it’s no efficiency king, but the Grande Panda Electric nails its brief: a stylish, tech-smart city runabout with throwback charm. For urban adventurers craving retro flair without range anxiety, Fiat’s little box just might roar.
