While some automakers are increasingly drawn to China or the U.S., Hyundai is strengthening its presence in Germany. The Rüsselsheim site is transforming into a „Little Namyang“, becoming a crucial hub for the company’s European development efforts.
A Growing Presence in Rüsselsheim
Hyundai’s South Korean headquarters in Namyang is gaining a powerful European sibling. For years, the automaker has operated a significant development center in Rüsselsheim. Over the past two years, the facility has expanded by more than 25,000 square meters. In March, this expansion will officially open as the Square Campus of the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC), marking a new era for the brand in Europe.
This state-of-the-art facility boasts the Hyundai Motor Group’s largest NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) testing chamber, alongside advanced areas dedicated to driver assistance systems, electric powertrains, and chassis development.
Little Namyang: A Commitment to European Innovation
“The expansion of our facilities underscores the forward-thinking mindset driving the Hyundai Motor Group,” says Tyrone Johnson, Managing Director of HMETC in Rüsselsheim.

With the expanded facilities, Hyundai provides a hub for creative collaboration. The teams now have the resources and advanced technologies they need to push boundaries and create a more dynamic, connected future for Europe’s automotive landscape.
Hyundai’s commitment to European innovation is evident. The Rüsselsheim center is closely linked to its Nürburgring outpost, which focuses on areas such as chassis development, powertrain performance, and durability testing.
High-Performance DNA
“High-performance vehicles have always been an essential part of our DNA,” adds Johnson. “Our expanded facilities at the Nürburgring allow us to seamlessly integrate N Performance into our EV strategy. At the same time, we will continue to refine our conventional engine technology.”
By deepening its investment in Germany, Hyundai is signaling that it views Europe not just as a key market but also as a vital center for innovation. With this expanded focus, the Rüsselsheim site solidifies its role as a cornerstone of Hyundai’s global development network.
