Lamborghini Urus SE PHEV: The Silent Bull

The new Urus SE is not only hotter and sportier, it also offers something unexpected — a whisper-quiet ride.

The Lamborghini Urus has always been a stunning sports SUV, blending performance and luxury in one eye-catching package. But the new Urus SE is not only hotter and sportier, it also offers something unexpected – a whisper-quiet ride.

Luxury Meets Efficiency

While performance is crucial, not all customers want to make noise on the road. The new Lamborghini Urus SE, with its powerful plug-in hybrid system, caters to those who desire both a grand entrance and the option to play it quiet. Thankfully, the team led by Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr kept the iconic twin-turbo V8 engine and steered clear of downsizing to a smaller engine with fewer cylinders.

This decision is a wise one, especially in a segment where rivals like the Ferrari Purosangue and Aston Martin DBX are not yet electrified. Meanwhile, models like the BMW XM and now the Lamborghini Urus SE are pushing ahead with electrification to appeal to new customers seeking lower real-world fuel consumption and the ability to drive in electric mode.

In terms of driving pleasure and dynamics, the Urus SE now sits firmly at the top of its segment.

Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer

It is a super SUV that seamlessly blends different qualities, offering absolute comfort alongside performance and driving fun, the CTO added further.

Silent Power

The Urus SE isn’t just about roaring power at every throttle press. Its blend of a turbocharged engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 141 kW / 192 PS electric motor lets the Urus SE silently glide out of the driveway, a dramatic shift from the loud starts of its predecessors. Thanks to the 26 kWh battery pack in the rear, the Urus SE can travel over 60 kilometers on electric power alone, consuming just over two liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, depending on the driving mode.

But while the Urus SE can leave town in hushed tones, the thrill of Lamborghini performance is never far behind. A flick of the drive mode switch unleashes its 800 PS (588 kW) of combined power. Whether creeping through urban areas in near silence or unleashing the beast on the open road, the Urus SE masters both subtlety and raw aggression with ease.

A Roaring Comeback

With the hybrid powertrain’s 950 Nm of torque available from just 1,750 rpm, the Urus SE storms to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds – jaw-dropping for a vehicle that weighs 2.5 tons. The ferocious acceleration is matched by the signature growl of the V8 engine when the car is pushed into sportier drive modes.

Maximum speed? An astonishing 312 km/h, which is beyond belief for an SUV that comfortably seats four or five passengers in a cabin draped in luxurious leather. The 12.3-inch digital display and head-up display keep you informed as the car eats up the road, and the adaptive air suspension system balances comfort and precision handling. On top of that, the Urus SE’s sporty demeanor doesn’t compromise its off-road capability, with the air suspension offering a range of 15 to 75 millimeters of ground clearance. However, those massive 23-inch Pirelli tires might still be the limiting factor on rough terrain.

Whisper Mode or Full-On Roar

While the Lamborghini Urus SE boasts features like up to 23-inch high-performance tires and a powerful air suspension system, the car’s dual personality is what truly sets it apart. It can be as discreet as you need it to be in electric mode, yet with a simple switch, it morphs into a roaring Lamborghini ready to thrill. For the first time, Lamborghini offers an SUV with the license to glide silently through city streets without sacrificing the brand’s core performance values.

Whether it’s tackling the daily commute in electric mode or tearing up the highway with thunderous force, the Lamborghini Urus SE represents the next chapter in the evolving story of luxury SUVs.
