With the addition of the Mini Aceman, the Mini lineup grows to three models. Positioned between the compact Cooper and the larger Countryman, the Aceman offers a fully electric option that’s ideal for small families with an urban lifestyle. But in a competitive market, a few extra touches would help it stand out.
Compact, Stylish, and All-Electric
The Aceman is the latest addition to BMW’s growing SUV and crossover portfolio, this time donning the trendy Mini badge. Its size aligns with the original Countryman’s dimensions, and it’s powered by a 160 kW (218 PS) electric motor that delivers 330 Nm of torque – an ideal amount for most driving scenarios. The Aceman handles with Mini’s trademark agility, thanks to its low center of gravity, and the spacious interior makes it as practical as it is stylish.
While its power is ample for city driving, the Aceman’s limits show on highways, with a top speed of just 170 km/h and a somewhat sluggish charging rate of only 95 kW. Competitors without Mini’s premium branding now offer charging speeds near 200 kW, highlighting an area where the Aceman lags. The 54 kWh battery’s range promises up to 400 km, but in colder weather or at higher speeds, this can drop to around 300 km. The driving experience is enjoyable, though, with the Aceman’s firm, comfortable suspension maintaining Mini’s signature handling despite its nearly 1.8-ton curb weight.
Premium Style, But Could Use a Few Extras
The Mini Aceman is well-rounded but lacks a few features that premium buyers might expect. It’s fun to zip around town or cruise along scenic roads, but the slow charging speed and modest top speed can disappoint on longer trips. Additionally, Mini has opted not to offer leather seating, heated seats, or a traditional dashboard display. Instead, drivers get a single 24 cm central display, integrated into a textured fabric dashboard.
A head-up display is also missing, as are extra gauges behind the steering wheel, where instead, a leather-like strap is the primary view. Ambient lighting and color-changing projection graphics on the dashboard bring a touch of flair to the interior, though. Despite its compact 300-liter cargo space, folding down the rear seats increases capacity to over 1,000 liters, which should suit most needs.
