BYD Atto 2: Compact Yet Capable

The BYD Atto 2 is here to fill the shoes of a compact electric SUV, specifically designed for the European market.

BYD introduces the Atto 2, a smaller electric SUV targeting European buyers. The market debut is set for March.

The BYD Atto 2 is here to cinquer the compact electric SUV-segment, specifically designed for the European market. With a length of 4.31 meters and a wheelbase of 2.62 meters, the newcomer offers seating for five passengers.

With that size it is competing directly with models like the Smart #3 and Opel Mokka Electric. Inside, the Atto 2 mirrors the tech-forward design of its larger sibling. As the Atto 3 it is featuring a central display, digital instruments, and a minimalist layout. The center console showcases a dual charging pad, cupholders, and a gear selector shaped like a diamond. A panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with natural light, adding a sense of spaciousness.

The Atto 2 rides on BYD’s custom 3.0 electric platform. The underpinnings eliminates the traditional driveshaft tunnel, freeing up more cabin space. Its cargo capacity starts at 400 liters and expands to 1,340 liters. The rear seats are folding flat, making it practical for city living and weekend getaways alike.

The BYD Atto 2 is Designed for Europe

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, shared the brand’s vision for the Atto 2:

The compact car segment is incredibly popular here, and the Atto 2 offers a nimble and versatile option that will resonate with this large customer base. It combines BYD’s strengths in battery technology, electric motors, and Cell-to-Body construction into a compact package that introduces cutting-edge smart features to the city-SUV class.

Power and Efficiency

The base version of the Atto 2 features a front-wheel-drive setup, powered by a 130 kW (177 hp) electric motor paired with a 45 kWh Blade battery. This configuration offers a respectable range of 312 kilometers (WLTP). For those seeking greater range, BYD has confirmed that a larger battery option will be available at launch.

The Blade battery is integrated into the vehicle’s chassis using Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction, a first for BYD. This design not only reduces weight and saves space but also increases the rigidity of the vehicle’s body by making the battery’s upper cover part of the cabin floor.

Pricing and Market Potential

The Atto 2 is expected to start at just over €30,000, positioning it competitively in the compact electric SUV market. BYD’s emphasis on efficiency, technology, and practicality makes it a strong contender for Europe’s EV-hungry consumers.

With its blend of smart features, practical dimensions, and innovative engineering, the BYD Atto 2 is poised to make waves as it enters the market in March.
